McFatter Technical College has received funds from the federal Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) to provide emergency financial aid grants intended to assist college students with expenses. These funds in the amount of $2,000 emergency financial aid grants will be disbursed to assist current students enrolled in a Career & Technical Education Program. Funds will assist with tuition, food, housing, course materials, technology, healthcare and childcare costs to cover the cost of attendance and/or emergency costs that have arisen due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eligible students include those:

  • Currently enrolled in a Career & Technical Education (CTE) program through the close of the Phase 5 application period – March 18, 2022.
  • Who are NOT currently receiving a Pell Grant. Please note, currently enrolled students who are receiving a Pell Grant DO NOT need to apply to receive these funds. Checks will be automatically disbursed to you.
  • Who have not previously received a $2000 emergency cash grant from any of the Broward Technical Colleges (Atlantic, McFatter, Sheridan).

***Please note, students who already received a $2,000 HEERF grant check DO NOT qualify and should not apply.***

The deadline to apply is March 18, 2022.

Application Process for McFatter Technical College:

  • Step 1: Complete the HEERF application via your Focus Student Portal at https://broward.focusschoolsoftware.com/focus/ by March 18, 2022. Refer to the attached page for instructions.
  • Step 2: Await email notification of approval or denial. Please be sure to also check your spam mail.

Reasons for Denial

* You previously received an emergency financial aid grant for $2,000.

* You were not enrolled in a Career & Technical Education (CTE) program through the close of the Phase 5 application process – March 18, 2022.

GREAT NEWS! Students who are enrolled exclusively in an on online CTE program
are now ALSO eligible to apply for the CARES Act Student Financial Aid $1000 Grant*

Applications are now open for Phase Three (3) of the CARES Act Emergency Financial Aid Student Grants. McFatter
Technical College has received funds from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act).

The CARES Act established and funded the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) to provide emergency financial aid grants intended to assist college students with expenses incurred due to the pandemic. These funds will be disbursed to assist with tuition and fees* (NEW), food, housing, course materials, technology, healthcare, and childcare to cover the cost of attendance at the school and/or emergency costs that have arisen due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In accordance with the federal CARES Act, McFatter Technical College’s total HEERF allocation is $603,976 of which
$301,988 will be awarded to students as emergency financial aid grants in the amount of $1000 each.

Following guidelines from the US Department of Education, McFatter Technical College will disburse these financial aid grants to students whose learning was impacted by the Coronavirus. Students must be enrolled in a Title IV Pell-eligible Career and Technical Education (CTE) certificate program; however, they do not have to be a Pell recipient.

Additionally,students may be eligible for the grant if they meet ALL the criteria below:

• Did not previously receive an emergency financial aid grant during Phase 1 or 2.
• Enrolled in a Career and Technical Education (CTE) Title IV Pell eligible certificate program as of August 2020
through the closing of the Phase 3 application process.
• Completed a 2020-2021 FAFSA application and met all eligibility requirements for Title IV financial aid OR are eligible
to complete a FAFSA application**.
• Have been financially impacted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
• Possess a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma issued from an accredited school.
• Be a U.S. citizen or national, permanent resident, or other eligible noncitizen.
• Have a Social Security Number verified through the FAFSA process.
• If a male between the age of 18-25, have Selective Service registration verified.
• Be making satisfactory academic progress.
• Not owe an overpayment on Title IV grants or loans.
• Not be in default on a Title IV loan.
• Have returned fraudulently obtained Title IV funds if convicted of or pled guilty or no contest to charges.
• Not have fraudulently received Title IV loans in excess of annual or aggregate limits.
• Have repaid Title IV loan amounts in excess of annual or aggregate limits if obtained inadvertently.
• Not have a federal or state conviction for drug possession or sale, with certain time limitations.
Eligible students interested in receiving one of these grants, must apply in their Focus Student Portal at
www.browardfocus.com no later than Friday, March 12, 2021 to be considered. Once logged in, look for the CARES
application in the Forms menu.
*With the release of Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act, CARES Act funds are now
subject to the allowable uses set forth in HEERF II.

McFatter Technical College has received funds from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act). The CARES Act established and funded the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) to provide emergency financial aid grants intended to assist college students with expenses incurred due to the disruption of campus operations. These funds will be disbursed to students to assist with food, housing, course materials, technology, healthcare, and childcare costs associated with significant changes to the delivery of instruction due to the coronavirus.

In accordance with the federal CARES Act, McFatter Technical College’s total HEERF allocation is $603,976 of which $301,988 will be awarded to students as emergency financial aid grants in the amount of $1000 each.

Following guidelines from the US Department of Education, McFatter Technical College will disburse these financial aid grants to students whose learning was disrupted as a result of campus closures which resulted in instruction being delivered remotely. To be eligible, Students must be enrolled in an eligible on-campus and/or hybrid/blended Title IV Pell eligible Career and Technical Education (CTE) certificate program.  Additional eligibility criteria are listed below.

Eligible students interested in receiving one of these cash grants, must apply in their Focus Student Portal at www.browardfocus.com by November 6, 2020. Once logged in, look for the “CARES Application Phase 2” in the Forms menu.  Applications may not be reviewed until after the November 6th deadline.

Students may be eligible for the grant if they meet all the criteria below:

  • You did not previously receive an emergency financial aid grant during Phase 1.
  • Enrolled in an on-campus and/or hybrid/blended Title IV Pell eligible Career and Technical Education (CTE) certificate program as of March 17, 2020 through August 2020, with the exception of students who have subsequently completed their CTE program at McFatter Technical College at the time of grant application. Please note, students who were enrolled exclusively in an online program prior to the declared emergency are not eligible for these financial aid grants.
  • Completed the 2020-2021 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and met all eligibility requirements for Title IV financial aid OR are eligible to complete a FAFSA application.*
  • Have been financially impacted due to disruption of campus operations caused by COVID-19.
  • Possess a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma issued from an accredited school. If your high school/ GED transcript is not on file, you will be required to provide a copy in order to process the CARES application.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or national, permanent resident, or other eligible noncitizen.
  • Have a Social Security Number verified through the FAFSA process.
  • Have Selective Service registration verified if between the age of 18-25.
  • Be making satisfactory academic progress.
  • Not owe an overpayment on Title IV grants or loans.
  • Not be in default on a Title IV loan.
  • Have returned fraudulently obtained Title IV funds if convicted of or pled guilty or no contest to charges.
  • Not have fraudulently received Title IV loans in excess of annual or aggregate limits.
  • Have repaid Title IV loan amounts in excess of annual or aggregate limits if obtained inadvertently.

campus operations. These funds will be disbursed to students to assist with food, housing, course materials,
technology, healthcare, and childcare costs associated with significant changes to delivery of instruction due to the
coronavirus.

In accordance with the federal CARES Act, McFatter Technical College’s total HEERF allocation is $603,976 of which

Following guidelines from the US Department of Education, McFatter Technical College will disburse these financial
aid grants to students whose learning was disrupted as a result of campus closures which resulted in instruction being
delivered remotely. Students who were enrolled exclusively in an online program prior to the declared
emergency, are not eligible for these financial aid grants.

• Enrolled in an MTC on-campus and/or hybrid/blended Career and Technical Education certificate program
as of March 16, 2020, even if the student had subsequently completed the program at time of grant application.

• Completed a 2019-2020 FAFSA application and met all eligibility requirements for Title IV financial aid OR
are eligible to complete a FAFSA application*.
• Have been financially impacted due to disruption of campus operations caused by COVID-19.
• Possess a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma issued from an accredited school.
• Be a U.S. citizen or national, permanent resident, or other eligible noncitizen.
• Have a Social Security Number verified through the FAFSA process.
• If a male between the age of 18-25, have Selective Service registration verified.
