FIREFIGHTER:

The Firefighter program is a 492 hour program. This program meets the requirements for certification as a firefighter set forth by the Bureau of Fire Standards and Training State Fire Marshal Office. Included in the Firefighter Programs are the written and practical portions of the State Firefighters Certification Examinations. This challenging program combines instruction (ladder usage, hose layout, hazardous materials, extrication and breathing apparatus) and field related activities.

Program Costs

All applicants applying for the Firefighter program must:

• Be at least 18 years of age
• Have earned a standard high school diploma from a regionally accredited institution (or equivalency). Please note: Students that have earned a high school diploma from outside the US must have their diploma evaluated — a list of the accepted foreign transcript evaluation agencies is available at the Broward Fire Academy front office.
• Students must take and pass Basic Skills Tests; students who have earned a college diploma from a regionally accredited institution are exempt from the Basic Skills Tests.
• Students must have a current BLS Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) card.
• Programs are hourly based, and students must complete an entire program to receive their Certificate of Completion/State License per the Florida Department of Health and Bureau of Fire Standards & Training. Experiential Credit would not apply.

Enrollment is not open to high school students

EMT EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN:

An EMT is trained to work as a member of an emergency medical team administering first aid treatment and transporting sick or injured persons to a medical facility. The Emergency Medical Technician – ATD program offers students the opportunity to become a certified Emergency Medical Technician. The Emergency Medical Technician – ATD program includes; theory, emergency room rotations, fire rescue ride time, handling of equipment, and performing designated tasks under hazardous and non-hazardous conditions. All applicants must meet with the program counselor to complete the required paper work prior to registering for the EMT program. Students must pass a Level II background check, drug screening and medical examination.

• National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians

Program Costs

Fees are based on the number of class days according to the Broward County Public Schools calendar.  Tuition and fees are subject to change without notice.

All applicants applying for the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – ATD program must:

• Be at least 18 years of age
• High School Diploma or GED®, physical examination and immunization record, drug screening
  (approved vendor only), and Level 2 Background Check (approved vendor only).
  Applicants must complete a physical exam, immunization record, and level II background check (approved vendor only). Please note, additional fees are associated with medical screenings are non-refundable.
• Students must take and pass Basic Skills Tests; students who have earned a college diploma from a regionally accredited institution are exempt from the Basic Skills Tests.
• Programs are hourly based, and students must complete an entire program to receive their Certificate of Completion/State License per the Florida Department of Health and Bureau of Fire Standards & Training. Experiential Credit would not apply.
