Whether you are looking to improve your spoken and written English skill level, needing to increase your basic skills level as you prepare for the successful completion of your chosen Career and Technical Education program, preparing to enter our Practical Nursing program by studying for the ATI TEAS®️ test, or pursuing your high school diploma through the GED® tests, we are here to help you achieve your goals.
Our open-entry/open-exit programs offer targeted instruction by highly qualified teachers in reading, language and math skills. Classes are offered at flexible times to suit your lifestyle, including Saturday and online.
ESOL
English for Speakers of Other Languages ESOL
The English for Speakers of Other Languages program prepares non-native English learners with the skills they need to work successfully in the United States. The classes prepare students to communicate in English, to improve job skills and to further their technical and academic studies. Classes focus on life skills, reading, test taking skills, listening, speaking and writing.
Academic Skills Building (ASB)
The ASB program is designed for students who have tested at the equivalent of ninth grade and above on the Basic Skills assessment, but need to improve their basic skills to meet the requirements of a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program in which they are enrolled. There is a $15 nonrefundable assessment fee and $20 Student Activity fee per year in addition to tuition.
Adult Basic Education (ABE)
The Adult Basic Education course of instruction is designed to improve the employability of the state’s workforce through instruction in mathematics, reading, language and workforce readiness for students who score below the ninth grade level on the Basic Skills assessment. There is a $15 nonrefundable assessment fee and $20 Student Activity fee per year in addition to tuition.
GED ® Test Preparation
Our GED® Test Preperation is for the student who needs to prepare for the GED®️ Test. Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, and Science instruction is provided. There is a $15 nonrefundable assessment fee and $20 Student Activity fee per year in addition to tuition.
Test of Essential Academic Skills Preparation (TEAS®️ Prep)
This course is designed to help students prepare for a passing score on the ATI TEAS®️ test, which is required for admission to the Practical Nursing (PN) program. The ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS®️) was developed to measure basic essential skills in the academic content areas of Reading, Mathematics, Science, and Language usage. These entry level skills were deemed important for nursing program applicants by a panel of nursing program curriculum experts. McFatter Technical College’s acceptable scores on the ATI TEAS®️, is a proficient level or 55.0% overall. Enrollment in the TEAS®️ Prep course includes a $20 Student Activity fee per year in addition to tuition.
